The Dallas Cowboys’ future leadership remains uncertain as owner Jerry Jones offered measured praise for Mike McCarthy following their season finale.
While Jones spoke positively about the head coach, he notably avoided making any firm commitments for 2025 and beyond, leaving both the timeline and decision process up in the air.
Perhaps most telling was Jones’ suggestion that McCarthy could explore opportunities with other teams if they came calling.
That opening might have already caught someone’s attention.
“Chicago Bears have sought permission to interview Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and are awaiting a response from Dallas, sources tell me and Todd Archer,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter wrote on X.

Dallas reportedly hasn’t responded yet, and the timing is crucial.
McCarthy’s contract with the Cowboys is about to expire, though Dallas maintains exclusive negotiating rights until Jan. 14.
Even if the Cowboys deny the request, the Bears could pursue McCarthy once that window closes.
Though Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn reportedly top Chicago’s list of candidates, it raised eyebrows by also requesting to interview New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
While with the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy built an impressive resume with 204 wins and a Super Bowl championship.
His success continued in Dallas, where he’s compiled a 49-35 record over five seasons but has just one playoff victory..
For a Bears team hungry for a return to winning ways, McCarthy’s track record makes him an appealing candidate to lead a resurgence.
