There have already been more than 420 FBS players who’ve entered the transfer portal since Tuesday, and some of them are really familiar names. But it’s often the names that you’re less familiar with who end up defining the spring window.
What would Alabama have been in 2023 without the contributions from Trey Amos (Louisiana) or Jaylen Key (UAB)? Does Michigan win a national championship without the contributions from Josh Wallace (UMass)?
All of those players were under-the-radar spring transfer portal additions last year, and there are good players to be found this cycle for teams with a discerning eye.
To get a sense of who those players might be, 247Sports reached out to sources across the country in the personnel space to get feedback on some of the Group of Five and FCS entries from the spring window who have a chance to make a real impact on the Power Four level in 2024. Most players on this list came up multiple times in talking with sources across the country.
One such player was Utah State edge rusher Paul Fitzgerald, who came up multiple times from various schools. It didn’t take Fitzgerald long to land at an autonomy school, committing to Utah Wednesday.
These are 20 lesser-known players who could end up with a similar path (listed alphabetically).
