Bryce Underwood is trying to “keep the main thing, the main thing.”
Yes, he’s the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit and with that comes a ton of hype and opportunity. He’s also going to be one of LSU’s most-hyped prospects in quite some time, and he projects to have the type of talent to follow in Jayden Daniels’ Heisman Trophy-winning footsteps.
That’s all exciting, and in today’s NIL-focused recruiting trail that’s certainly reason to believe that Underwood could be focused on raking in as much dough as soon as possible.
That could mean pitting LSU against other schools on the recruiting trail to get the best NIL package possible. That’s something quarterbacks have done in the recent past, so it wouldn’t be a surprising move. That’s not the type of player the Tigers have in Underwood, though.
He’s not taking any other visits this summer, because he knows what he’s worth, but he also knows his ultimate goal.
“It’s mainly about what I’m trying to get to,” he recently told On3. “My main goal is the NFL, first draft pick. Money is going to be the last thing I’m thinking about until I get to the league.”
If Underwood’s goal is to make it to the NFL, he picked a great school to act as the springboard for his professional career. Not only was LSU’s last quarterback the Heisman Trophy winner, but Daniels was picked No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.
Could Underwood be that type of draft prospect?
Only time will tell, but he’s in a great position.
