One of Georgia’s biggest wants in the 2025 recruiting class is officially on board: CJ Wiley has committed to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound wide receiver from Milton (Ga.) chose to stay in-state to play for Georgia, but his recruitment did not come without some twists and turns. Wiley originally committed to Florida State on June 25, a decision that surprised many. Georgia stayed on Wiley, who ultimately de-committed from the Seminoles on Oct. 27.
The outreach from James Coley remained daily.
“I would say probably everyday or every other day. They really don’t try to change my mind. Coach Coley just says, we need you. I wish we had you here, and all of that,” Wiley said.
Count this as one of the most significant recruiting wins of the cycle for Kirby Smart and James Coley.
“They’re a winning team,” Wiley told Dawgs247 earlier this spring. “Me and Coach Coley are cool. We’ve got a really good relationship with each other, so yeah, I think that’s the big thing.”
Georgia’s push for Wiley took off after the wide receiver coach changes earlier this year. Wiley had been pursued by Bryan McClendon, but not with the same fervor as Coley. Wiley immediately became a top-of-the-board target when Coley arrived, thanks to his familiarity with Wiley at Texas A&M and South Carolina.
Georgia’s position-coach changes and Coley’s three stops in only a few months were the two biggest questions the Bulldogs had to overcome in this recruitment, and they did so. In the end, the in-state pull took precedence.
“I just want to find a school that can develop me on and off the field,” Wiley said earlier this spring. “I want to have a good relationship with the coaching staff. I want it to be a good atmosphere, so I can see myself there.”
Wiley is high school teammates with now-fellow Georgia commit Ethan Barbour. Barbour’s relationship with Wiley played a helping factor in this decision.
Wiley’s commitment to the Bulldogs gives Georgia five wide receiver pledges in the 2025 class, joining Landon Roldan, Thomas Blackshear, Tyler Williams, and Talyn Taylor. Below is the 247Sports Scouting Report for Wiley.
“Big-framed outside receiving target with excellent physical tools, multi-sport context, and football pedigree. Legitimately 6-4+ with large catch radius. Capable of becoming a dangerous red-zone threat. Basketball player who could dunk in junior high. Ran multiple sub-11.00-second 100-meter times as a junior. Also competed in baseball prior to high school. Has shown a more expanded route tree than many receivers at the same stage. Displays consistent ball-tracking acumen on vertical shots. Willing to work the middle of the field. Shows impressive run-after-catch ability. Could be just scratching the surface on unlocking high-end explosiveness in pads. Immense production as a junior. Father earned All-SEC D-line honors at LSU and played in the NFL. Projects as a high-major receiver with physical tools to play either if needed. Combination of traits, multi-sport context, and on-field evidence suggest future NFL Draft candidacy.”
