Newport Beach (Calif.) Newport Harbor wide out Jordan Anderson just announced he’ll play his college ball at Oregon State. Anderson took official visits last week to Oregon State and San Diego State.
He took the entire week of the early signing period to make his decision and signed late Friday night before announcing his choice moments ago.
“It was a really tough decision but in the end, I just felt like Oregon State was the best all around fit for me,” Anderson said. “I like coach (Trent) Bray and believe in what he’s trying to build at Oregon State.
“I also like coach Gundy (Ryan Gunderson, OC) and coach Fense (Kefense Hynson, WR coach) and their plan for how they want to use me. I’m excited about what they’re planning to do on offense and I’m excited for this opportunity.”
Anderson is one of the region’s top receiver prospects. He was a longtime Oregon commit but reopened his recruitment two weeks ago.
The Beavers and Aztecs immediately jumped in and Anderson was able to visit both schools, taking a mid-week trip to Oregon State and then heading straight to San Diego State.
“I had a great visit to Oregon State,” Anderson said. “They took great care of me and my dad and made us feel welcomed and at home. They treated us great, were very respectful and answered all our questions.
“The whole staff was with us and we really felt a good connection there. There was a lot of energy and positive vibes the whole visit and the city of Corvallis is really nice and I felt comfortable there the whole trip.”
With a new offensive coordinator (Gunderson) coming in, Anderson said he’s still learning about the style of the offense the Beavers will run but is comfortable with the scheme fit.
“I talked a lot with coach Gundy and coach Fense and I have a good idea what they want to do,” Anderson said. “Coach Gundy has been around some good offensive minded coaches and it sounds like he wants to be multiple and run a lot of different things.
“I know he wants to pass the ball and that’s exciting. He’s a former quarterback and a smart guy so I’m confident the offense we’ll run will be an explosive one. Like I said, I just fit in well there. I like the college town vibe, Oregon State football is a big thing and I like the new direction things are going with Oregon State and ready to be a part of that.”
Anderson is a receiver we like a lot, and he has made huge strides in his game since his sophomore year. He’s one of the better pure route runners in the region and does a great job setting up an opposing corner.
He changes speeds well and shows an extra burst when the ball is in the air. He has also really improved as a pass catcher and has a nice all-around game with the versatility to play in the slot or out wide.
He transferred in to Newport Harbor from Long Beach Millikan and really came on strong towards the latter half of the season. He finished the year with 77 catches for 995 yards and nine touchdowns.
He was a two-way player at Millikan and we liked him at corner as well as receiver early on in his career. He played solely on the offensive side of the ball for the Sailors and will also focus on receiver in college.
