Bayern Munich pulled past the final whistle with just enough to snatch all three points from VFL Wolfsburg. While the result turned out to be in favor of the Bavarians, it did not seem so until the very end. Striker Harry Kane felt that the game could have been a lot less stressful had Bayern been more efficient with their shooting.
The 3-2 scoreline was a fair reflection of the unpredictability of the match. Bayern created several chances but were inefficient in front of goal, whereas the Wolves were dangerously accurate with the few opportunities that they created. The Wolves registered 6 shots from inside the box. While both the goals were scored within the box by the opposition, Bayern managed to score just one goal from their 18 shots in the box. The other two coming from brilliant pieces of skill by Michael Olise and Leon Goretzka from outside the box.
In the post-match interview (via @iMiaSanMia) Harry Kane said: “We should have scored more goals today, that would have made the game easier for us. But Wolfsburg always stayed in the game, they scored, even at an important time, and made it stressful for us in the last few minutes. But all in all we won the game. It was a good performance against a strong team that has picked up a lot of points this season.”
It is to be noted that excluding the FC St.Pauli fixture in October, Wolfsburg have scored in every single game this season in the Bundesliga. Despite Bayern being on a 3 game clean-sheet run, it was always going to be a daunting task to shut down the Wolves attack. This was definitely one of those hard fought games that can tend to go either way and will be decisive in close title races. Securing this win was crucial to maintain a 4 point cushion for Bayern.
