Just a few months after the New York Jets fired him, Robert Saleh is seemingly on the verge of returning to the sidelines for another NFL team.
He has conducted multiple interviews with other teams for their head coaching openings, and the San Francisco 49ers have also talked to him about becoming their defensive coordinator again.
One team that seems particularly interested in Saleh is the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will reportedly bring him in for a second interview on Friday, per Jeremy Fowler.

Saleh started his NFL coaching career as a defensive intern with the Houston Texans in 2005, and it led to him serving as the Niners’ defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2020.
It was with San Francisco where he made a name for himself by shaping the team into one of the NFL’s best on defense and getting it to the Super Bowl during the 2019 season.
The Jets hired him to be their head coach in 2021, but after they got off to a 2-3 start this season, they fired him amidst some controversy.
At age 45, Saleh is young enough to grow with a team like the Jaguars that needs plenty of pieces and is hoping to build a very competitive team over the next several years.
He was able to make New York into a stellar defensive team, and that is a formula that could bode well for a Jacksonville team that has a disappointing quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and a lack of top-level skill players.
Jacksonville went 27th in points allowed and 31st in total yards given up this season.
