- Like the originals, the new Studio Style putters feature face inserts.
- New Fastback and Squareback models are multi-material designs with new alignment schemes.
- In shops March 14 with MSRP of $499 for standard models, $549 for Long Design models
What’s in a name?
When was the last time you were truly surprised? Like “mouth open but no words coming out” surprised? For me, it was learning Scotty Cameron would be naming his latest putter release “Studio Style.”
Gobsmacked. I love that word and I also love that I felt gobsmacked upon hearing Studio Style name.
Those of you not born in the previous millennium may not have an emotional response to the Studio Style name. I get that. You were not around for the initial release or maybe you were still in diapers.
Those of us now approaching diapers on the other side of our lives remember the Studio Style name. For me, I would say that I fondly remember that original line of Studio Stock putters from 2005.
Twenty years ago, when I was getting into golf and putter collecting, Studio Style putters were the cream of the corral.
With their unique insert, colored dots aesthetic and bright red Studio Design grips, these putters were the “It” putters.
Now Scotty Cameron has brought back the Studio Style name. Is this a pure marketing play or are these new Studio Style putters faithful evolutions of the original line?
Studio Style key elements: The new SCS face insert
The key feature of the original Studio Style line was the German Stainless Steel (GSS) face insert. The head of the putter was stainless steel but the face was a polymer-backed GSS insert. The GSS/polymer insert produced a different (softer) sound and feel than a milled stainless steel face.
For the new Studio Style line, the Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) insert is manufactured from carbon steel. Carbon steel is softer than stainless steel. This new SCS insert feels even softer since the new milling pattern removes some of the face material.
Seeing “carbon steel” is a nostalgic trigger for many Cameron fans, me included. One of my first Scotty Cameron putters was a carbon steel Oil Can Classic Newport. To this day, that putter is one of my favorite-feeling putters.
Because of rust issues, we are unlikely to ever see the return of Oil Can-finished 100-percent carbon steel putters any time soon but the new Studio Style nickel-plated (aka rust-resistant) carbon steel insert gives us the feel of that softer steel of yore.
Studio Style key elements: The Cameron aesthetic
The “Cameron aesthetic” is a thing. Scotty Cameron putters have a particular look. This is intentional and likely can be traced back to the eye of Scotty Cameron himself.
Scotty Cameron takes the looks of his putters very seriously. The Art of Putting is a thing. There is a reason we can all pick out the Scotty Cameron putters in our local shops. They look like Scotty Cameron putters.
If you want an example of a Cameron aesthetic element in the Studio Style putters, look no further than the insert milling. Putter faces are milled to reduce the amount of metal that touches the ball. Less contact at impact translates to a softer feel.
Deep milling or grooves are the typical recipe for the softest feel. Cameron could have done that with the carbon steel insert. Instead, he went with the way cooler-looking chain-link pattern. The visuals are an important element for Scotty Cameron putters.
If Cameron was a filmmaker, the repetition of the chain-link pattern on the bottom of the new Full Contact Slim grip would be Mise-en-Scène 101.
2025 Studio Style key element: Multi-material mid-mallets
The 2025 Scotty Cameron Studio Style line shares elements with the original line but there are some completely new aspects. Adjustable sole weights were not a thing in 2005 but they are present on every new Studio Style putter.
Though the original Studio Style models should be classified as multi-material, the mixture of materials is far more extensive in the new line. This is especially true for the new Fastback and Squareback models.
The Fastback and Squareback models are milled from 303 stainless steel, have carbon steel/polymer inserts and aluminum sole plates. Depending upon how heavy you build them, there may also be some tungsten in the weights.
“New” Studio Style key element: Ring design mid-mallets
Since we are talking about the Fastback and Squareback models, we should probably talk about their new shapes. Both now have holes in the middle of the flanges.
By removing material from the middle, the weight placement shifts to the perimeter. This is a classic recipe for boosting MOI and forgiveness.
New Versa-tility
You may have also noticed that the Fastback and Squareback models also have new black elements at the edges. These elements are involved in the overall weight distribution plan but also play a role in alignment.
If the new “high-contrast multi-material alignment system” looks familiar, that is likely because you are familiar with Cameron’s Senior Director of Putter R&D Austie Rollinson’s previous putter designs when he was a putter builder at Odyssey.
Scotty Cameron 2025 Studio Style models
Let’s take a look at the different Studio Style models. In addition to the models shown below, the Squareback 2 and Fastback models will also be offered as counterbalanced Long Design models.
Left-handed models will consist of the Newport 2, Newport 2.5 Plus, Fastback 1.5 and Catalina.
(Model descriptions in italics are from Scotty Cameron.)
Studio Style Newport

Studio Style: In-hand observations
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been rolling balls with the Studio Style Newport 2 and Squareback. Here are some of my initial impressions.
Rolling the Studio Style Newport 2
Getting right to the point: this is the nicest-feeling Newport 2 I have rolled in a long time. I like rolling balls with this NP2 so much that I was thinking about joining Club Cameron this year just to get new outfits for the putter.
The view at address is perfect. Cameron got the look of this one spot-on.
I don’t know how many Anser-style putters I have rolled in my lifetime. Let’s just say “quite a few.” Many of those putters are fine but ultimately get dismissed with a golf clap for the worthy effort.
This is not one of those putters. The SCS insert feels amazing and the balance through the ball is sublime.
Recently, I’ve been gaming mainly mallets. As such, I figured the new Cameron Phantom 5.2 that I talked about last week would be the one getting bag time.
Joke’s on me. The Studio Style Newport 2 is the putter to beat in Dave’s Garage right now.

Rolling the Studio Style Squareback
Of all of the Studio style models, the Squareback was the one that I just had to roll.
I am a fan of wide blades. The 2020 Best Overall Scotty Cameron Select Squareback 2 has made the trip to the golf course in my bag more than once.
Obviously, this Squareback is quite different from the 2020 Select. That’s what had me so curious.
While rolling balls, I had an odd experience. Not bad. Just different.
I realized I was waiting for the back of the putter to clear the impact position. The ball was gone but I perceived myself waiting for the putter to finish its business.
I know that sounds odd. That’s why I’m mentioning it.
It wasn’t a bad feeling at all. The opposite, actually. The Squareback felt very stable during the stroke with the feel of the stroke just persisting a little longer than with other putters.
When these hit shops in mid-March, go roll one. Perhaps you’ll feel the same thing.
The alignment scheme was familiar and functional. If a Select Squareback and a Jailbird had a baby, the Studio Style Squareback would be the result. That’s a compliment, not a knock, by the way.

Welcome back, Studio Style
As you can probably guess, I am a fan of the Scotty Cameron Studio Style line. The shapes are classics. How cool is the return of the Catalina?
The CSC insert design is spot on, both in feel and looks. It gives the retro feel of the original Studio Style putters but in a completely modern package.
The new Fastback and Squareback designs show Scotty Cameron is willing to mix things up as well.
A tip of the hat to the Cameron marketing and Tour folks for the perfect tease on these models. Cameron showed us photos of PGA Tour versions of these putters at the Hawaii tournaments but kept the name under wraps until today.
Keeping that secret was a tall order but well worth it. I appreciated the naming surprise almost as much as I am enjoying rolling the Newport 2.
If you are a Cameron fan or someone who played one of the original Studio Style putters, you’ll want to give these a try.
