Bayern Munich is inching towards closing the deal with star left-back Alphonso Davies, but may need to wait a little bit longer with another big-time veteran on an expiring contract: Joshua Kimmich.
From a report by Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, as captured via @iMiaSanMia:
Joshua Kimmich is still taking his time before making a decision on his future. Max Eberl is determined to keep the player and extend his contract. There’s concrete interest in Kimmich from Spain and England, but the tendency remains towards a contract extension [@Plettigoal]
BFW Analysis
Kimmich is having a wonderful season at Bayern and showing just how irreplaceable he is to the team. But he cannot be faulted for exploring his options, and he should have many. What modern top-level team would not love a capable midfield orchestrator as him? Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal FC, either LaLiga giant Real Madrid or FC Barcelona (where Hansi Flick finds himself needing a spark)…no matter how well-stocked those teams are, Kimmich is the kind of player you can imagine walking into the XI and elevating everyone around him.
But despite past slights, the 29-year-old surely feels like he has a good situation in Bavaria right now. All the tea leaves have pointed to extension for a while now. It just won’t come cheaply, and Kimmich has earned that at this point.
