“Money” got paid.
It has been just about a week since Ultimate Fighting Championship top 10 ranked Renato Moicano got strangled in the UFC 311 main event against Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (watch highlights). Still, not all is bad for the loudmouth, funny Brazilian.
And that’s because he got paid well for stepping up on one day’s notice to replace Arman Tsarukyan, who pulled out with a bad back injury (details here).
On his podcast, Show Me The Money, Moicano revealed that he made over $950k.
“I got a nice check,” Moicano told his podcast partner Gilbert Burns. “What do you think?”
Moicano’s co-hosts started comparing Bitcoin numbers to try to guess what the Brazilian made before asking if it was $950,000, and Moicano simply said, “Over.”
According to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), Moicano’s disclosed UFC 311 fighter pay was $250k (which is usually lower than actual amounts because of tax stuff) but it’s safe to say he got a nice locker room bonus.
The 35-year-old also claims the pay-per-view (PPV) numbers for his fight were higher after the main event shuffle.
“Somebody told me that after Arman pulled out, [UFC] sold even more pay-per-views because everyone was excited,” Moicano said. “Of course, it was something different, right? You don’t see that many times.”
