When thinking about Harry Kane, a number of words spring to mind. “Goals” and “leader” are among the first…and “defence” is certainly not.
Nonetheless, it was not Harry Kane’s goal scoring ability or leadership that caught the praise of Joshua Kimmich, but rather, the striker’s defence.
“He helped us a lot defensively and even got a yellow card,” Kimmich explained after the match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Regardless of his goal, what he did today was exactly what we needed. It’s not always just about scoring hat-tricks.”
Harry Kane truly served as Bayern’s first line of defence, working hard to ensure his side held onto a narrow but crucial victory in terms of the Bundesliga title race.
It goes to show that defending involves all eleven players and often starts from the top of the pitch, so kudos to Harry Kane for a brilliant attacking and defensive display.
