Ever since the New England Patriots hired Mike Vrabel to be their head coach, his staff has been taking shape, and there have been some significant changes.
Their latest involves the departure of a longtime member of their staff who is one of the few remaining links to their dynasty teams.
“Longtime Patriots assistant coach Mike Pellegrino will not return in 2025, per source. Pellegrino, 31, was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams over a decade in New England and coached three All-Pros during six years as DBs coach. Mike Vrabel continuing his staff overhaul,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

Pellegrino started in 2015 as a coaching assistant and in his four years in that capacity won Super Bowl championships during the 2016 and 2018 seasons.
Afterward, he became cornerbacks coach, a role he had held until this departure.
Pellegrino was a lacrosse star at Johns Hopkins University and played in Major League Lacrosse for a brief period.
Though Pellegrino is out, another familiar face from the Patriots’ glory days is back.
Josh McDaniels, who held several roles on Bill Belichick’s staff from 2001 to 2008 and was offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2021, is back in that position under Vrabel.
McDaniels is coming off a failed stint as Las Vegas Raiders head coach, but he is back with the team where he made a positive name for himself.
McDaniels and Vrabel will look to mold rookie quarterback Drake Maye into a franchise player while addressing the team’s many roster needs.
