Debates are starting to be raised about the idea of Patrick Mahomes possibly being a better player than Tom Brady, who was at the quarterback position.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are on the cusp of winning their fourth Super Bowl in six years and their third in a row, which is unprecedented.
Patriots legend Julian Edelman, who played with Brady for almost his entire career, spoke recently on “The Dan Patrick Show” about how Mahomes could potentially pass Brady.
“He’s gotta do it for a long time. He’s on pace. This is remarkable…It’ll be interesting for me to see the next chapter of Patrick Mahomes when some sort of adversity comes along…He’s going to be playing way longer after Travis (Kelce), Chris Jones when he departs,” Edelman said Tuesday.

“He’s going to be playing way longer than Travis, Chris Jones when he departs. He’s going to be there by himself. Will he be able to retool and find guys to help him go out and win.” pic.twitter.com/FakDftHcOK

Edelman makes a really good point here.
Any player can be great if they put in the work and have the right supporting cast around them.
For Mahomes, he has had Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones on his side for the entirety of his playing career.
But what is going to happen to Mahomes if a player such as Kelce, who is 35 years of age, decides to hang it up soon?
Will Mahomes be able to be the same quarterback and win at the highest level without his longtime running mate out there with him?
It is amazing to witness the greatness of the two-time MVP and three-time champion year in and year out, but he might have to kick it up a notch if he wants to be a champion down the road without his best pieces.
