Bayern Munich’s signing of 21-year-old Köln keeper Jonas Urbig could spell the end of Alexander Nübel’s prospects in Bavaria.
From Sport Bild, via @iMiaSanMia:
There are voices at Bayern who no longer believe that Alexander Nübel will ever play for the club again, especially after the signing of Jonas Urbig. Meanwhile, Nübel is quite relaxed, his loan at Stuttgart will continue until 2026 and he has a contract at Bayern until 2029. Bayern’s goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner is considered a supporter of Nübel and, unlike his predecessor Tapalovic, is in close contact with him. Nübel was made aware of the Urbig transfer early on. He wants to recommend himself with good performances at Stuttgart – and due to the current injury of Oliver Baumann, Nübel has a good chance of becoming Germany’s #1 from March onwards while ter Stegen is out, which gives him another advantage [@BILD]
BFW Analysis
Yeah, this is not a good situation for Nübel…at FC Bayern, that is.
Nübel has a good gig at Stuttgart, and is helping VfB compete for a Champions League place next season. He should be able to find a good permanent home after that, whether at Stuttgart, elsewhere in the Bundesliga, or abroad. And right now, Nübel does have a great opportunity to stick in Julian Nagelsmann’s plans for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
It is no fault of Nübel. The GOATkeeper simply would not retire. Next year will be Nübel’s sixth full season as a Manuel Neuer succession candidate in Bavaria, his fifth consecutive out on loan. He’s going to be 29. The question is now: can Neuer outlast all the next guys coming in, too?
Is Bayern Munich setting the bar too low for itself with some of the decisions that it is making? Where does Bayern need to to improve the roster now…and in the future? Should the club just stay quiet about Joshua Kimmich’s contract situation? We think so! Let’s talk about all of that and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works Show.
