Bayern Munich once signed three bright talents at the winger position, all of which seemed destined for greatness at Bayern Munich. Those names are Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané. While they each have had their moments of greatness, the clear inconsistencies or down-right poor performance have led to the current situation where Bayern needs a complete re-haul of the position.
Coman, Sané, and Gnabry cost Bayern a whopping 56 million euros a year in wages. An almost unthinkable amount considering the output of these players over the last few seasons. Fans have outcried for replacements for years, and it seems as though Bayern are ready to move on from this core.
Savings are also to be made in the wing positions. Serge Gnabry earns around €19m/year, Kingsley Coman €17m and Leroy Sané €20m. Bayern are looking to sign two new wingers. A final decision regarding Sané has not been made yet. The player is ready to take a pay cut and a short term deal
Regarding Gnabry (contract until 2026), Bayern are pessimistic about being able to offload him
With Coman, a summer departure is possible. The Frenchman can imagine a move to Saudi Arabia. In addition to saving his wages, Bayern would also get a decent fee for Coman
Tobi Altschäffl from Sport Bild reports that Bayern plans to save money by offloading these players. The club is optimistic a move to Saudi Arabia could be possible and beneficial to both parties. There is not as much optimism about offloading Gnabry. As for Sané, there has not been any final decisions made.
These sales and reduced wages should allow for transfer spend for players such as Christopher Nkunku and Jamie Gittens who would taken on smaller wages. Seems like a solid plan.
