How did everyone like that new Champions League format?
The finish sets up the tantalizing prospect of a Bayern Munich vs. Manchester City playoff to get into the next round — Bayern, coached by former Man City star Vincent Kompany; City, led by former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola.
“We’re getting into a stage of the competition where you expect big games. So whatever it is we have to be ready for that,” Vincent Kompany said after the dust had settled on Wednesday (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
If Bayern does not draw City it will face Celtic. If City does not draw Bayern it will face Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid or Bayern Munich; one is the king of the competition, the other one is maybe the second or third king of the competition,” quipped Guardiola in comments captured by City Xtra, via @iMiaSanMia.
“But which is the king, and which is the second or third king?” asked Mace Windu in response.
Okay, fine, the king is Real Madrid. For now.
