Check out the best facts and Opta data with our Bournemouth vs Liverpool stats page after Arne Slot’s side went nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Mohamed Salah was once again the hero for Liverpool as they overcame a high-quality Bournemouth side to go nine points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Salah scored a brace, made up of a penalty and a beautiful curled effort 15 minutes from time, to provide the difference between the sides.
On the half-hour mark, he stepped up to confidently dispatch a spot-kick after Lewis Cook was adjudged to have fouled Cody Gakpo in the Bournemouth area.
That goal made 2024-25 the fifth season in which he has scored at least 20 Premier League goals. Only Alan Shearer (seven), Sergio Agüero (six) and Harry Kane (six) have reached 20 goals in more seasons than the Egyptian.
With just one goal separating the sides, in-form Bournemouth, who followed up a 4-1 win at Newcastle with a 5-0 demolition of Nottingham Forest last week, were very much in the game. Justin Kluivert uncharacteristically missed the best of their chances, fluffing his lines in front of an open goal after Marcus Tavernier had hit the inside of the post with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson well beaten.
Salah’s quality shone through once again, though, with a perfect shot that bent inside the far post to cap off a fine counter-attacking move from the visitors and put them into an unassailable lead.
His two goals took him above Frank Lampard and into sixth place in the all-time Premier League goalscoring charts, now on 178 goals.
Arne Slot’s leaders have still only dropped points in six league games all season, and look very good value to win a second Premier League title.
After this victory, the Opta supercomputer gives them a 93.0% chance of doing so. Beating Bournemouth away from home is no mean feat, and this was another big step towards winning the title.
