The Cincinnati Bengals have a couple of huge questions that need answers this offseason, with star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins dealing with uncertain contract situations.
Chase had a public back-and-forth with the Bengals prior to the season in an effort to land a record-breaking wide receiver contract, which he didn’t get.
At the 2025 Pro Bowl Games, he spoke out about his situation.
“At the end of the day, I just hope I get what’s fair. … Hopefully I don’t put too much pressure on anybody, but I just want it to be fair, that’s all,” Chase said, via “NFL Live.”
Asked what he thinks is “fair,” Chase did not give specifics.
“Fair is just what I deserve. I can’t really say everything I want to say. … It’s a written story already,” he said.
Chase is set to play the 2025 season on his fifth-year option, which the Bengals picked up for $21.6 million, but he is still seeking long-term security and, likely, the biggest wide receiver contract of all time.
Chase posted 127 catches for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, all of which led the league by a wide margin.
These recent comments were a bit more reserved than those he made before the season, probably because he knows he just had a historically great campaign, which enables him to say he wants what he deserves.
That is because he now arguably deserves the biggest wide receiver contract in NFL history.
He would surpass college teammate Justin Jefferson, who this past offseason set the record with a new four-year, $140 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
The league will now wait to see if the Bengals actually give Chase what he feels he has earned.
