Bayern Munich were on there way to a comfortable blowout win on Saturday, when all of a sudden Holstein Kiel decided to score three unanswered goals — two of which came in stoppage time to make it a really tense end. Although they won four of five matches in the last two weeks across all competitions, Bayern have allowed ten goals while scoring just twelve in that same time.
Kompany was asked about the team leaking goals in the past two weeks and he did not mince words.
“In the past couple of weeks we had some really good moments but also moments we need to improve. That’s our job. Now, we finally have an entire week where we can train. We’re in a good position to do the work,” said Kompany (@iMiaSanMia).
Although he did not directly address the conceded goals, he brings up two good points: 1) they finally have a full week to practice. Since coming back from Winter break, Bayern have played seven matches in three weeks. Now, without a match midweek, Bayern will have almost a full week to prep for their home match against Werder Bremen on Friday. 2) He says they are in a good position to do the work. Although they conceded those goals, they won most of the matches and sit in a good position in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Even with the recent run of form, Bayern sit atop the Bundesliga table by nine points — at least until tomorrow when Bayer Leverkusen play — and have a better goal differential than anyone else — 23 points higher than the next higher. Kompany may be right to not sound the alarm bells, yet. As long as the wins keep coming, Bayern will be just fine.
