As Bayern Munich finished their Champions League league phase, Stuttgart had one of their biggest matches in recent history. Unfortunately, Alexander Nübel was unable to play and things did not go well. Frans Krätzig got an assist, but could not help Heidenheim find a win. Mainz also fell this week, but Gabriel Vidović might be back soon from injury. Speaking of injuries, Bryan Zaragoza returned to play after a long injury. See what else happened over the week:
FC Bayern Munich
There are nine players on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are five players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Franz Krätzig, Paul Wanner, Armando Sieb, and Gabriel Vidović.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Stuttgart had one job on Wednesday in the Champions League: win and move onto the playoffs round. Although they were at home, they had to face PSG who were in the same boat — desperate for a win to get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, Nübel was sick with a cold the day of the match and had to watch his team get slammed 4-1 and eliminated from the Champions League.
Nübel was back in goal for Stuttgart’s home match against Gladbach. Although he recorded four saves, he still conceded two goals. Just as unfortunate, Stuttgart could not score a single goal, relying only on an own goal which eventually led to Stuttgart’s 2-1 loss.
Stuttgart will be at home for the third straight match on Tuesday when they host Augsburg in the DFB-Pokal. They will also travel to face Dortmund in league play on Saturday.
Franz Krätzig – 1.FC Heidenheim
Krätzig started for Heidenheim and played 73 minutes at home against Dortmund. He did not get a shot attempt off but created three chances for his teammates to shoot — one of which led to Heidenheim’s loan goal in the 64th minute. The goal came just a minute after BVB went up 2-0. Krätzig was subbed off in the 73rd minute for Wanner.
Paul Wanner – 1.FC Heidenheim
Wanner started on the bench and saw the match’s three goals scored. He only had 16 touches in the 17 minutes he was on the pitch. He completed all eight passes he attempted, but could not influence the match in any other way. Heidenheim fell 2-1 at home.
Heidenheim will travel to face SC Freiburg on Saturday.
Armindo Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05
Sieb started on the bench for Mainz and came into the match in the second half in the 78th minute. The only opportunity he had came in stoppage time when a ball from a corner kick went off his head, but went wide. He nor his teammates could grab a goal, despite Bremen going down to nine men within moments of each other.
Mainz will host Augsburg on Saturday.
