And still?
Reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, is ready to drop a “huge announcement” in the next 24 hours, according to his latest post on social media. That said, fight fans hoping for a date and location for his Tom Aspinall title unification bout may want to temper their expectations.
UFC CEO, Dana White, typically handles those types of blockbuster reveals.
Jones, 37, captured the heavyweight crown by making quick work of Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, then defended the division strap — following an extended injury layoff — with a dominant performance against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
Aspinall has not competed since stopping Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304.
White recently told the combat sports media that negotiations were ongoing for Jones vs. Aspinall, but indicated the promotion was willing to move on if Jones (28-1, 1 NC) or Aspinall (15-3) were unwilling to put pen to paper. Best case scenario? “Bones” returns for International Fight Week in July.
Worst case scenario? Literally anything outside of an Aspinall fight.
