These days, the Dallas Cowboys, despite a star-studded roster, seem to be stuck in a real organizational malaise.
They won seven games this season a year after their long home winning streak came to an end in the wild-card round of the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, and after head coach Mike McCarthy left, they made what many feel was an underwhelming choice by promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
They also recently gave quarterback Dak Prescott a huge contract extension, and people continue to question the decision-making of owner Jerry Jones.
Former Cowboys star Dez Bryant feels the organization isn’t putting Prescott in position to succeed, and he therefore questions the wisdom of giving him such a huge contract.
“They are not serious about the future in the next two to three years. … My take on it, I don’t see no success. Why sign him to the contract if he wasn’t going to put the best pieces around him to succeed?” Bryant said, via Maggie and Perloff.

Once upon a time, the Cowboys were the envy of the NFL, and they would bring in players to get over the hump, whether it was Charles Haley or Deion Sanders.
But ever since they won their last Super Bowl championship in the 1995 season, they have progressively lost their luster and mystique, and there is an entire generation of fans who only know the Cowboys as a team that always eventually finds a way to fail.
Dallas still has many roster needs, including a bona fide No. 1 running back, a No. 2 wide receiver and help on its defensive line.
However, given its salary cap situation, it won’t be easy for them to address those issues.
