Nyamjargal Tumendemberel was experiencing “weight management issues” during his cut to flyweight on Thursday night, severe enough for the medical team to pull the plug and cancel his UFC 312 preliminary card bout against Hyun Sung Park on Feb. 8 in Sydney.
The promotion announced the cancelation prior to the UFC 312 weigh ins.
“During the weight loss, the doctor continued to stop the weight loss,” wrote on Instagram. “This fight was canceled due to the offer to match the weight, but the opponent said that the athlete wouldn’t accept it. Thank you all for waiting patiently. Things are happening the way they are. There are many more battles to come so don’t be discouraged.”
Tumendemberel, 26, racked up two victories on the promotion’s “Road to UFC” proving ground before making his debut at UFC Macau last November. “Art of Knockout” dropped a split decision to Carlos Hernandez and now stands at 8-1 overall.
“Hello, this is Hyun Sung Park,” Park wrote on Instagram. “I have done my weight loss to 125lb flyweight limit weight, but the match has been canceled because the opponent failed to weigh the weight so it would be difficult to proceed with the match. I wanted to show you a good look in this match, but I’m sorry I couldn’t.”
Like Tumendemberel, the 29 year-old Park is also a product of the “Road to UFC” series and holds a perfect record of 9-0. “Peace of Mind” notched consecutive wins under the UFC banner over Seung Guk Choi (UFC Vegas 68) and Shannon Ross (UFC Vegas 83).
