Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeneß has developed a rather impressive reputation for holding controversial interviews. The latest one, at the time of writing, was fairly innocuous for his high standards, but it still contained Hoeneß repeating his desire to see Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen’s best player Florian Wirtz at Bayern.
Leverkusen’s CEO, Fernando Carro, was then asked to respond to this open declaration. Carro has already had some spats with Bayern in the past and showed a clear desire to not have a repeat, having this to say: “I’m happy when Uli dreams. I have nothing to say about that,” Carro said, via @iMiaSanMia. “It’s his dream, not mine.”
No, it certainly is not Leverkusen’s wish to lose Wirtz. The mercurial midfield magician is heavily linked with signing a new contract with Leverkusen that will delay Bayern’s pursuit for another year. But at some point, it is likely that Bayern will go all in to make Hoeneß’ dream a reality. And will Leverkusen be able to keep that dream from happening?
