The New York Giants currently do not have a quarterback under contract for the upcoming season. They have mentioned bringing back third-stringer Tommy DeVito but they’ll need to add a seasoned veteran along with a rookie to fill their quarterback room.
Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr sees the Giants selecting Miami’s Cam Ward with the third overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft and has a bold prediction of who they might bring in as their veteran option this offseason.
The Giants will pair a quarterback in one of the first two rounds with an established veteran. I think the Giants’ starting quarterback this coming Week 1 will be aged 27 or older. Brian Daboll understands the game and also knows that the quickest way toward erasing the ugliness of next season is to find himself a quarterback with some seasoning who can get the ball out on time and on location.
While I feel the Giants suffer a bit in the way the Falcons did—so much perceived talent but real holes at foundational spots that are overlooked—this is the season where it all must come together, or fall apart. What would I do? Use my extra fourth-round draft pick and see if I can pry Jake Browning out of Cincinnati, giving Ward some time to sit in Year 1. Eventually, for Daboll to succeed, he’s going to need the dynamism of a running quarterback.
It makes sense for the Giants to address their quarterback need in this fashion. Ward may not be ready to start Day 1 and will need a bridge player to start the 2025 season that is not named Tommy DeVito.
Jake Browning has just seven NFL starts in his six seasons in the NFL, which began with Minnesota before moving on to Cincinnati, where he has been Joe Burrow’s backup.
In 2023, Browning started seven games in Burrow’s absence and led the Bengals to a 4-3 record, completing 70.4 percent of his passes for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
