Tatiana Suarez didn’t walk away from her fight against Zhang Weili at UFC 312 unscathed, and she’ll have the scar to prove it.
On Tuesday, the veteran strawweight showed off the aftermath from a wound she suffered during her fight this past weekend when a massive gash got opened on her knee. During the broadcast, the UFC commentary team noted that the sizable opening on Suarez’s leg happened after she was cut by the cage during a grappling exchange.

Suarez revealed an image on her Instagram of her leg after getting stitches, which will obviously take some time to heal.

Despite the nasty gash on her knee, Suarez battled it out for all five rounds but ultimately came up short on the wrong end of a unanimous decision loss to the reigning strawweight champion.
It was a disappointing result for Suarez after she had been gunning for UFC gold ever since she won The Ultimate Fighter reality show. Injuries slowed down Suarez’s progression, with multiple layoffs derailing her progression, but she eventually got the opportunity to fight for the title at UFC 312.
While the fight didn’t go her way, Suarez released a statement addressing her future after the loss this past Saturday.
“Win, lose or draw, I’m right where I want to be,” Suarez wrote on Instagram. “Doing what I love to do every single day of my life. I have the best people around me that love me for me. Living the dream! It’s all about the right mindset, and life has taught me time and time again. I’ve experienced it all: thrill, agony, happiness, heartbreak. That’s what life is all about. I’m blessed to have this life.”
Suarez now sports a 10-1 record overall but she remains one of the top strawweight contenders in the sport regardless of her loss to Zhang at UFC 312.
