The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t looked all that great lately.
They’ve dropped three games in a row.
Their big lead in the AFC North Division slipped right through their fingers, and they don’t look like a Super Bowl contender right now.
Even so, Russell Wilson gives them the best chance to compete at a high level, right now and in the future.
With that in mind, they reportedly intend to keep him around.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Steelers fully intend to re-sign Wilson.

Talking on ESPN’s “Get Up,” he argued that even if they didn’t want to keep Wilson, they wouldn’t have many options to solve their quarterback situation in the offseason.
They won’t be able to get either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward in the NFL Draft, and Sam Darnold, who will be the other renowned free-agent quarterback, will be more expensive than Wilson.
He doesn’t envision any other big-name quarterback becoming available for a trade, much less one that could fit the Steelers’ plans.
Of course, they could also explore the possibility of turning to Justin Fields.
But if they didn’t do that this season, it’s hard to think that will change at any point.
More than that, even if they haven’t played well over the past couple of weeks, Wilson has earned the benefit of the doubt in Pittsburgh.
Likewise, the team believed in him when no one else did, which also has to count for something.
