Alan McInally played for Bayern Munich and Celtic during his playing career, scoring 17 goals for the Scots and 10 for the Bavarians. Clearly, not many people are as well-versed in the culture and complexity of each club.
“The fact all my former clubs are facing each other in the Champions League this season is really special for me,” McInally told FCBayern.com. “It’s so great. People always ask me who I’m backing. I need to be careful what I say. I still feel a close connection with all my former clubs.
“The atmosphere is unique. European nights at Celtic Park are really special, Every fan knows Bayern have greater quality and will probably progress over the two legs. But that’s exactly the risk. Celtic have nothing to lose. Bayern have a lot of pressure and aren’t happy to be in these playoffs. I think Bayern would’ve preferred a week off instead of going to Celtic Park.”
It is safe to say that McInally is not the only person psyched to see this game. While the former striker was not going to be coerced into give a pick on the match or making a declaration on who he would support, it was obvious that the 61-year-old held both club in very high regard.
