Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany coached Bayer Leverkusen attacker Nathan Tella at Burnley, so when the 25-year-old entered his team’s 1-0 win over the Bavarians in the DFB-Pokal, the coach likely knew his old charge was capable of making a big play.
Tella did just that with a header for the game-winning goal.
“He’s done an incredible job since he’s been there. He’s changed the dynamic of the team. They’re in a better place now than they were last season. They’ve been a really strong team, and I’m happy to win and to see him, but more importantly, the team’s good result (Tuesday),” Tella told ESPN Archie Rhind-Tutt (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Tha result ultimately eliminated Bayern Munich from the competition and kept “The Curse of Harry Kane” alive just a little longer. Bayern Munich is still favored to win the league this season, but it did lose yet another opportunity for Kane to capture a trophy with this elimination from the DFB-Pokal.
Kane, of course, missed the game due to injury.
