Every recruiting class has them: The household names who are tracked breathlessly, who can send a fan base into a whirlwind with one cryptic tweet, who become water-cooler (i.e.,message board) fodder because of two things: They’re really damn good — and they’re uncommitted. As the 2025 recruiting class hits the fall slate of visits, 247Sports is profiling a slew of these players in the War Daddy series as our analysts handicap far-and-wide recruiting battles and tell you why these players matter on a national scale.
The state of Texas was once known as a rich recruiting ground for quarterbacks. And while passers are still plentiful, the Lone Star State is among the country’s best when it comes to producing elite wide receivers.
In recent years, players such as Garrett Wilson, Jaylen Waddle, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and many others went from playing high school ball in Texas to hearing their name called in NFL Draft’s first round.
The 2025 class is no different, as the top two receivers in the country hail from the Dallas area.
While Duncanville (Texas) five-star Dakorien Moore is already committed to LSU, Sachse (Texas) five-star Kaliq Lockett is gearing up for a big summer. Lockett is 247Sports’ No. 11 overall prospect, No. 2 wide receiver and No. 3 player in Texas.
He currently has four official visits set and is likely to add more before his expected summer decision. LSU, Florida State, Texas, USC and Texas A&M are all front and center in this recruitment while Penn State, Alabama and Florida remain on the periphery.
Lockett has been busy taking unofficial visits during the spring, and the picture is coming into focus for him as he heads toward official visit season.
What is it going to take to land Lockett? He told 247Sports that he’s looking for a nice blend of family and development.
“Definitely a family feel and development-wise,” Lockett said. “I’m really big on family. It’s going to be hard to leave when I go to college. I need a second home when I go off to college, people that are going to accept me in.”
Lockett has a strong support system at home, with his parents set to play a big role in his decision. Their presence will serve as a sounding board, but Lockett’s father has been clear that the decision is his son’s.
Lockett’s rise on recruiting boards came later than others, with the majority of his bigger offers coming early in 2024. Though it’s been a hectic pace, Lockett and his family are handling the process with patience.
