Arsenal were 2024’s most dominant force, even if they don’t have anything to show for it.
Mikel Arteta‘s side pushed all the way in the 2023/24 Premier League title race but ultimately fell short after being beaten to the crown by Manchester City.
In the year of 2024, the Gunners picked up 85 points in total, the joint-highest tally of any side in England’s top flight.
They were level on points with Liverpool, but can be named as the top side in 2024 due to their superior goal difference.
Arsenal scored 89 goals and conceded just 29 times, giving them a goal difference of 64 – 14 better than the Reds.
While Liverpool finished third in the 2023/24 Premier League, their form this term has seen them earn 45 points from just 18 games.
Top of the Premier League by eight points, Arne Slot’s side can count themselves unfortunate that they were pipped to top spot in the 2024 rankings by Arsenal.
With Liverpool winning the Carabao Cup and Man United winning the FA Cup, it does mean that Arsenal are in the unusual position of being 2024’s top dogs despite not winning any silverware.
Despite winning the Premier League crown, Manchester City finish 2024 as the third best team in the top flight.
While finishing last season in 91 points, this term has been much more difficult for Pep Guardiola‘s side who have won just nine of their 19 league games so far.
Chelsea may have finished sixth in the Premier League last term, but their impressive resurgence under Enzo Maresca puts them in fourth place for the calendar year.
Meanwhile, Newcastle and Aston Villa round off the top six.
Further down the table, Tottenham were the ninth best team in the Premier League in 2024 with 51 points from 37 games.
As for Manchester United, they were 10th in table with the same points tally as Spurs, but with a far inferior goal difference.
With 2025 just getting started, the Premier League’s top clubs will be desperate to top the charts as the most successful team of the year.
But what will be more important will be the prospect of silverware and each team striving to write their names in the history books.
