It took a little longer then some hoped, but Auburn has its quarterback in the 2025 class. And it’s a good one.
Deuce Knight, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 34 player, No. 5 quarterback and No. 2 player from Mississippi, has flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn. He had been committed to the Fighting Irish since September of 2023.
Knight visited Auburn several times already this year as he tried to make a decision, in for Big Cat Weekend, the first two games of the year against Alabama A&M and Cal, the SEC opener against Arkansas and then again for his official visit this past weekend for the Oklahoma game.
When Hugh Freeze was first hired, Knight was actually one of his very first offers at quarterback in the 2025 cycle back in January of 2023. Knight is the younger brother of former Indiana wide receiver Ty Fryfogle, who was recruited by Freeze back at Ole Miss. With that prior connection, Freeze was in early on Knight and aggressively pushed for a little bit early last fall when the contact period for 2025 recruits started. Ultimately things cooled and Knight ended up choosing Notre Dame.
But as Auburn circled back to Knight, the Tigers got the big 6-foot-4.5, 206-pound lefty signal-caller.
“Looking at it, who wouldn’t want to go play for Auburn?” Knight previously told Auburn Undercover. “Historically speaking Auburn’s been a great school, I think Coach Freeze is going to do big things in the coming up years.”
Knight previously visited for a spring practice in 2023, but did not visit again. That is until Big Cat, where Knight quietly visited with his family shortly after the event wrapped up on Saturday. After hearing a lot from the Auburn staff in the weeks leading up to it with plenty of Zoom calls and FaceTimes, Knight was able to get back on the Plains and experience things once again.
From George County (Miss.), Knight was also pursued by Ole Miss to try and flip. But it’s Auburn that now holds his commitment and keeps him in the southeast. Overall Knight is commitment No. 25 for the Tigers in the 2025 class. His addition boosts Auburn just above LSU, good for No. 3 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.
