While Bayern Munich struggled mid-week in Champions League play, Stuttgart was also on the road and needed a win to keep their hopes alive. Meanwhile, Lovro Zvonarek and Sturm Graz proved that it could go worse for a team in the Champions League than what happened to Bayern. In league play, Armindo Sieb faced Alexander Nübel and got the better of him. There were also two loan moves this week. Arijon Ibrahimović is going back to Italy on loan, this time to Lazio. Also, Max Scholze was recalled early from the 3. Liga. See what else the loanees were up to this week.
FC Bayern Munich
There are nine players on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are five players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Franz Krätzig, Paul Wanner, Armando Sieb, and Gabriel Vidovic.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Nübel and Stuttgart traveled to face Bayern’s next Champions League opponent, Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia on Tuesday. He had only one save but conceded one late goal. Luckily, Nübel’s teammates were able to score three goals and keep their hopes in the Champions League alive with a 3-1 win.
Stuttgart returned to Germany, but were on the road to Mainz on Saturday. With their minds perhaps on the Champions League, Stuttgart stumbled against fellow top-six opponent, Mainz. Nübel conceded two goals, but his teammates were shutout, as they fell 2-0.
Stuttgart host PSG on Wednesday and currently sit in the final spot to qualify for the next round. A win would guarantee that they would advance. Stuttgart will also host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
Franz Krätzig – 1.FC Heidenheim
Krätzig started on the road against Augsburg on Saturday. He attempted just one shot — a low ball from way outside the box, requiring a save. He also completed 88% of his passes, misplaying just three. Krätzig was subbed off in the 75th minute, right before Heidenheim scored an equalizer.
Paul Wanner – 1.FC Heidenheim
Wanner had a very similar match to Krätzig’s. Although he had two shots — one blocked and one that missed high and wide — he also completed all but three of his passes and was unable to help with a goal. He played most of the game, but was subbed off in the 90th minute. Just two minutes later, Augsburg scored a stoppage time winner to send Heidenheim home without any points.
Heidenheim will host Dortmund on Saturday.

Sieb did not start for Mainz against his fellow loanee, but had a chance to go at him when he came into match in the 76th minute, with his team up 1-0. They came away with all three points at home.

By the time Zvonarek came into the match in the 69th minute, they were down 3-0 and had a goal disallowed by VAR. After he came on they scored two more and had another disallowed. Not that there was a lot to get from this match, but Zvonarek had two shots — one on goal from inside the box and one wide of goal from outside the box — and completed six of eight passes. Graz fell 5-0 in the penultimate Champions League match.
