If things continue on in the second half of the season like they did in the first half, we could finally see Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Leroy Sané operating on the same side of the field on a consistent basis.
Sané spent much of the first half of the season on the right-side, platooning with Michael Olise. Now, though, injuries to Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman opened the door for Sané to ply his trade on the left side, where Davies plays as a left-back. Sané looks more comfortable on that side of the field, which should help his production — a key factor in whether or not he will be retained by the club.
Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is an admirer of both Davies and Sané.
“Alphonso Davies and Leroy Sané are currently playing an important role in our team. We will see how that will develop in the future. We appreciate both of them very much and are happy they are part of the team,” Dreesen told Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It will be decision day soon enough for both players. Each should draw attention as free agents in the summer, which could make Bayern Munich sweat a bit should the duo continue to excel in the Rückrunde.
