Club legend Philipp Lahm has previously been linked to a return to Bayern Munich following his role as European Championship director for EURO 2024. In spite of the links to his former club, Lahm instead chose to work as the Managing Director for DFB Euro GmbH where he remains.
As Bayern have strong links with hiring former players for management positions, take Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn for example, rumours or at the very least, questions, associating former Bayern players to the club are never far behind. A phenomenon Lahm recently experienced once again (via @iMiaSanMia).
“I’m occasionally in contact with FC Bayern and individual people there, but not at the level you are referring to,” said Lahm.
When asked whether the “level” being referred to would entice Lahm at some point in the future, the 41-year-old played coy.
“I’ll just wait and see what happens. I only think about things when they’re concrete,” Lahm remarked.
While former players returning to take up management positions hasn’t gone well in recent memory – again, take Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn as an example, Philipp Lahm would surely be welcomed back with open arms.
It does, however, currently seem as if there is no solid offer on the table for Lahm, so any fans crossing fingers for the former Bayern captain to return may have to hold those fingers in place for a while longer.
