Team news
Here is the predicted lineup, courtesy of kicker:
Dayot Upamecano returns to the starting lineup after missing the Gladbach match due to yellow card accumulation. It’s possible that Eric Dier earns a second consecutive start because Kim Min-jae sat out Monday’s practice due to nagging injuries in his Achilles and knee.
Vincent Kompany has preferred Leon Goretzka over Aleksandar Pavlović and that should continue until proven otherwise. Kingsley Coman should be rewarded for his improved play, replacing Leroy Sané. Jamal Musiala recovered from the flu and is back in training this week. Musiala should be back in the starting lineup, although it’s highly unlikely that he can play a full 90 minutes.
From an injury perspective, Hiroki Itō, João Palhinha, Josip Stanišić, and Sacha Boey are still training individually but unavailable for the match. Daniel Peretz will miss a couple weeks due to a kidney bruise.
Hoffenheim has tried nearly every possible formation this season, none of which have been particularly effective. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has been a lone bright spot. Club legend, 33-year old Andrej Kramarić, leads the team in scoring but has only delivered one goal in the last 15 matches.
