After scoring braces in back-to-back matches against Dinamo Zagreb and Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise has only scored twice in the past 14 matches, including an eight-game dry spell.
Without the specialty penalty kick services of Harry Kane, Olise was the first man up when Sacha Boey was fouled in the box by a Shakhtar Donetsk defender. Olise buried the goal and the Bayern rout was on.
With the match winding down, Olise received a ball 45 yards away from goal with two defenders on him. The safe pass was backwards but Olise had other plans. He turned toward goal and juked the entire Donetsk defense, leaving goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk on the ground as he walked the ball toward the net for his second goal of the night.
Olise is usually pretty shy with his accomplishments, but Bayern teammate Konrad Laimer was happy to tell reporter Julian Buhl how great the moment was.
“It felt like he dribbled through 10 players,” said Konrad Laimer (via @iMiaSanMia). “It was like in Mario Kart when you get a star and nobody touches him.”
Due to the injuries to Kane and Kingsley Coman, Olise looks set to continue to be a go-to player for the Bayern attack.
