Did you miss it? Bayern Munich fullback Raphaël Guerreiro caught the eye with his performance in Bayern’s 5-0 win over TSG Hoffenheim on Wednesday — although his sense of urgency late in the game, with Bayern already running away with the scoreline, apparently did not meet with universal approval.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany and sporting boss Max Eberl fielded questions over whether Guerreiro’s quick throw-in — deflected back to himself off teammate Michael Olise’s back — was entirely appropriate. As captured via @iMiaSanMia:

“I think quick throws are good, also for the fans to make the game run quicker. It means the game isn’t stopped for long,” Kompany remarked. “Rapha is a creative player and does creative things on the pitch. You can talk about it, but you also need to support creativity.”
Eberl agreed: “He wanted to keep up the tempo of the game. That’s nothing to do with taunting opponents. You can also take corners quickly. Sometimes players have quick thoughts. There’s nothing wrong with that. I thought it was quite creative and funny,” the Bayern executive board member for sport said.
So the verdict is in. Cheeky? Yes. Ruthless? Maybe. Poor sportsmanship? Come on now.
