The Chicago Bears finally made a decision that, to some, seemed long overdue.
Following an all-time blunder on Thanksgiving, they pulled the plug on the Matt Eberflus experiment.
GM Ryan Poles is believed to be safe, and the team will finish the season out before inquiring about new coaching candidates.
However, team president Kevin Warren doesn’t seem too worried right now.
He recently talked about the Bears having the most-coveted coaching job in the league, as they have an ideal salary-cap situation, a promising rookie quarterback, and plenty of talent on both sides of the field:
“We’re going to have plenty of salary-cap space,” Warren said. “We have a young, talented roster. We have strong draft capital in the upcoming draft. And we have a quarterback in Caleb Williams who’s shown that he’s very special, and in the right environment, he can become even more special than he already has shown.”
He’s right on point there.
As questionable as Eberflus’ work was with the team, he did turn their defense around.
On top of that, they have a lot of talent to work with.
Caleb Williams, while inconsistent, has shown glimpses of the unmatched talent that made him the No. 1 pick.
Even though the NFC North Division figures to be one of the toughest in the league for years to come, this team isn’t that far off, personnel-wise, from being a contender.
The Bears desperately need to address their offensive line issues with their draft picks and salary cap.
They already have the foundation to become a good team, with Ryan Poles striking gold with most of the moves he’s made.
Now, it’s about finding the right person to lead them into the future, and they will have plenty of suitable options to choose from in the upcoming offseason.
