The biggest recruiting story of the week was 2025 four-star wing Avery Hjelmstad of Edmond Memorial (OK) committing to Utah. Hjelmstad was undoubtedly a great catch for the Utes but she’s far from the only top tier player to jump off the board this week.
Let’s take a take a look at some recruiting updates for a few of the nation’s best women’s high school basketball prospects.
Class of 2024 Recruiting Update:
Lexi Blue of Lake Highland Prep (FL) is headed to Kentucky to play for coach Kenny Brooks. One of the nation’s premier shooters, Blue was signed to play for Brooks during his tenure at Virginia Tech. The addition of Blue gives the Wildcats a top-50 caliber prospect to build around in the incoming freshman class.
Riley Abney of Brandon (MI) is off the board with her commitment to Oakland. Abney had a multitude of smaller school scholarship offers, but chose to accept a preferred walk-on position at Oakland instead.
Lucy Hood of Rabun County (GA) is headed to East Tennessee State after originally committing to Western Carolina. Hood reversed course following a coaching change in March. She will now attend school at the same institution where her twin brother, Jack, will play football next year.
Class of 2025 Recruiting Update:
Gabby Spink of Gibson Southern (IN) set up an official visit with Murray State and the Racers have offered her a scholarship. She had a banner school season, finishing the season with a state championship. Spink was honored as an Indiana All-Star.
Avery Hjelmstad of Edmond Memorial (OK) has established herself as one of the best prospects in a stacked 2025 class for Oklahoma. In Hjelmstad, Utah lands a versatile forward who is capable of making plays at every level of the game.
Class of 2027 Recruiting Update:
Kenzie Koch of Eastern Hancock (IN) and Elliot Leffler of Roncalli (IN) both have new scholarship offers from Purdue — Fort Wayne. The two of them are spending their summer together as members of the West Virginia Thunder Riego club. They were headliners of the Elite 100 Showcase stop in Indianapolis over weekend.
Staying in the Hoosier State, Adah Hupfer of Pendleton Heights (IN) will visit Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis on Tuesday. Hupfer is arguably the state’s premier front court prospect in the class. She, too, displayed her on talents on center stage at the Elite 100 Showcase. Since the April, she has heard from Army, Ball State. Butler, IUPUI and Richmond about potential scholarship offers. We expect that list to grow as her game matures.
