Make no mistake — there’s a growing list of college football coaches in win-now mode ahead of the 2024 season with a great deal of emphasis placed on results this fall. The first month of the campaign could alter the narrative a bit for this particular group that’s middling with breakthrough or disappointment.
In the SEC alone, there are several coaches in need of difference-making seasons to convince boosters and decision-makers at their respective schools to avoid pulling the plug, including Florida’s Billy Napier and Sam Pittman at Arkansas. The Gators and Razorbacks have bowl-eligibility goals despite facing two challenging slates.
Elsewhere, the portal giveth and has now taken away from Deion Sanders and Colorado after a whirlwind couple of weeks. Star running back Dylan Edwards is the latest high-profile player expected to make himself available this week, leaving Sanders ahead of his second season with a shell of last year’s portal-infused two deep.
