Highest of highs, lowest of lows.
Brendan Loughnane did not capture Professional Fighters League (PFL) gold yesterday (Friday, Nov. 29, 2024) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Undefeated Russian Timur Khizriev dominated the UK fighter for five rounds, scoring a unanimous decision to win the 2024 PFL Featherweight finals and a $1 million payday.
Shortly after his loss, Loughnane took to his social media to release a quick statement.
“Through the highest highs and the lowest lows. All you can do is give it your all. Five rounds with a great undefeated fighter,” Loughnane wrote.
Loughnane (30-6) was trying to become one of the few two-time PFL tournament winners and repeat his insane 2022 run; however, it was a tough night at the office for the British fighter because he was thoroughly dominated for all five rounds and was covered in blood for most of it because he got his nose smashed even more than it already was and cut up with elbows.
The 34-year-old had his three-fight win snapped, which included victories over Kai Kamaka, Justin Gonzales (watch highlights), and Pedro Carvalho.
PFL fans should expect to see Loughnane back in the 2025 tournament. He has competed in every single one since he signed to the promotion in 2019, you know, after UFC CEO Dana White passed on signing him.
