One of the biggest risers was Alabama quarterback commit Keelon Russell, who earned a fifth star and now checks in as the nation’s No. 10 overall prospect.
And don’t just assume that he shot up the board because he’s now committed to the Crimson Tide. We would have made the same move if he was still planning to sign with SMU.
We loved what Russell put on tape last fall. He also had statistically one of the best junior campaigns out of anyone in the class, completing a Top247-best 72% of his passes for 3,483 yards with 38 touchdowns to go against just three interceptions.
What we didn’t know, however, is how he really stacked up with some of the other premier signal-callers in the class until getting to study him at the Elite 11 Finals. Russell aced the exam, flashing a live arm and quick release all three days before earning the coveted title of MVP for the competition.
In our eyes, Russell is a premier playmaker for the position who can push boundaries and light up scoreboards. He’s also the third-youngest passer in the Top247.
