In 2025, Bayern Munich has won seven of its eight competitive matches. Unfortunately, that singular loss was an embarrassing 3-0 Champions League loss to Feyenoord on the road. Bayern only won away match during the group stage and will need to quickly reverse its fortunes to avoid crawling back to Munich needing an impressive result in the second leg.
Bayern and Celtic have only met on four previous occasions, all in the Champions League group stage. Bayern has won three of the matches and drew the fourth match.
Bayern is currently in first place of the Bundesliga, eight points clear of Leverkusen. Celtic is in first place of the Scottish Premiership, sitting comfortably with a 13-point margin over rival club, Rangers. Bayern finished the Champions League group stage in 12th place and Celtic mustered a 21st place finish.
Team news
Here is the predicted lineup, courtesy of kicker:
Vincent Kompany’s squad will want to start with its strongest lineup to score early and play from ahead. After failing to produce a clean sheet in the previous five matches, Bayern finally shut out Werder Bremen with a dominating performance. Playing Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané and Michael Olise on the same attacking line should open up the attack’s creative channels.
Aleksandar Pavlović has reinserted himself as the preferred choice at the defensive midfield slot opposite Joshua Kimmich. The backline remains unchanged, barring any training injuries or setbacks this week. However, Sacha Boey worked as the “A team” right-back during training on Monday.
From an injury perspective, Bayern expect to be without the services of Alphonso Davies, João Palhinha, Hiroki Itō, and Daniel Peretz. Serge Gnabry is back with the team this week after missing last week with an illness.
Celtic runs a 4-3-3 system that has been boom-or-bust in the Champions League. In six of the eight matches, Celtic allowed a cumulative total of three goals. However, the two losses to Dortmund and Aston Villa saw Celtic surrender 11 combined goals.
