The 2023-24 college football coaching carousel was historic. Two national championship-winning coaches departed from the sport when Nick Saban announced his retirement and Jim Harbaugh bolted for the NFL, and in turn, Alabama and Michigan underwent high-profile searches and tabbed exciting replacements for those legends atop their respective programs.
Kalen DeBoer and Sherrone Moore will be under the microscope all season as they seek to sustain momentum with the Crimson Tide and Wolverines, but they are far from the only first-year coaches with high expectations in Year 1 and beyond. Texas A&M, Arizona and other programs seek to make noise in the conference title and College Football Playoff races this year under new leadership.
The Group of Five also saw significant shakeups and accounted for some of the most intriguing hires on the carousel, but as the sport continues to shift further towards the biggest brands and power conferences, more eyes will be on the DeBoers and Moores than Sean Lewis at San Diego State or Bob Chesney at James Madison.
