If Mathys Tel wants to leave Bayern Munich before the end of the transfer window, progress is going to have to be made…quickly.
As it stands, a move to Manchester United is complex per Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk:
✅ The situation between Mathys Tel, FC Bayern & Manchester United is complicated
❇️ Manchester United want Tel and Tel would like to go to United
❇️ Problem: United does not want to pay as much as Tottenham (€60 Mio)
❇️ Bayern bosses wanted to sell Tel to Tottenham, but that is not where the player wanted to go
❇️ Bayern don‘t want to sell Tel for less, even though he wants to go to United
Miguel Delaney of The Independent (via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that the competition is down to Manchester United and Arsenal FC, as no other clubs are currently involved:
Mathys Tel’s future may come down to a straight choice between Manchester United and Arsenal as both clubs push for his signature. Any deal may now hinge on the type of loan move Bayern are willing to strike, as interested clubs would prefer an option to buy.
Bayern naturally want to keep their own option on a young player who is highly rated for the future, and is only leaving as he wants more minutes. That is something both United and Arsenal can offer, including the possibility of Tel being an immediate starter.
Meanwhile, Ed Aarons of The Guardian is reporting tha Arsenal’s progress on any type of deal is not all that great (via @iMiaSanMia):
Arsenal have made initial contact with Mathys Tel’s representatives and have received encouragement that he would be willing to move to north London. But Arsenal have yet to agree the terms of any loan deal with Bayern. Manchester United also remain in the frame.
If the reports are true, it does indicate that Tel is still willing to leave Bayern Munich permanently, which is something that was majorly in doubt just hours ago.
Manchester United has taken many gambles of late on unproven, expensive, striker-type players and at some point, the club cannot keep operating that way. Is this where the Red Devils draw the line? As for Arsenal, the Gunners seem less desperate, but also maybe even less willing to meet Bayern Munich’s asking price.
