Arsenal FC could be looking to take a run at signing Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies:
Although Arsenal are by no means out of this season’s title race, they’re not moving forward quickly under Mikel Arteta, so landing players such as Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies would be of obvious benefit in the future. As we head into the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta finds his Arsenal side fourth in the Premier League and nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
With the Reds showing how solid they are as a unit over recent weeks, it’s going to take a big ask for the Gunners to haul them back in. Clearly, they won’t write the season off until it’s mathematically impossible for Arne Slot’s side to be caught, but in the meantime, the North Londoners also need to be looking a little further ahead.
Nest summer represents the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to compete with their rivals for the signatures of key players. One of those would appear to be Bayern Munich‘s Alphonso Davies, but as TBR Football note, all of Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City are keen on landing the experienced wing-back.
Where the Gunners may have a slight advantage in any chase for the player is that, as TBR Football note, they tried to sign him back in 2019 – before he signed on in Bavaria. All players would seem to play their best football when they have confidence and feel wanted.
If Arsenal wants in, it had better take a number. Bayern Munich wants to ink Davies to a contract extension, but Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all at least been loosely linked to the Canadian star.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Alphonso Davies could be all for naught anyway.
With Real Madrid zeroing in on the star left-back for more than a year now, Davies could be on his way to Spain in 2025:
Over the last few months, Jude Bellingham is believed to have acted as an unofficial “cheerleader” for Real Madrid in their pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold, whom they are now very close to signing. The 21-year-old is very close with his international teammate, and as it turns out, he is also friendly with another Los Blancos transfer target: Alphonso Davies.
Real Madrid have been after Davies for some time, although in recent weeks, it has looked like they will miss out on signing him because he is believed to be close to agreeing a new deal at Bayern Munich. Nevertheless, Bellingham was spotted partying with the Canadian defender earlier this week.
Davies would be a much-needed signing for Real Madrid, given their struggles at left-back this season. Bayern are certainly favourites at this stage to win the race for his signature, although it cannot be ruled out that he will end up at the Santiago Bernabeu alongside Bellingham (and possibly Alexander-Arnold).
This tweet was embedded in the story as well:
Before anyone freaks out, it is unclear when that video was from or what the context is. Who knows? This Davies situation seems far from over and — literally — any scenario is a possibility.
The Winterpause allows us some time to reflect on the good, the bad, and the ugly from the first half of the season for Bayern Munich.
In this three-part series for Bavarian Podcast Works, we will breakdown each position group — Attack, Midfield, Defense — discuss each player and provide rating for how we feel they have played so far this season.
Chuck and Samrin break down the midfield group. Here is some of what the duo discussed on the show:
- The value of Joshua Kimmich.
- The promise of Aleksandar Pavlović.
- The underrated performances of Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer.
- The uncertainty surrounding where João Palhinha might fit into this midfield in the short-term and the long-term.
- Ratings on each of the players.
Back in 2021 and 2022, Bayern Munich was linked to versatile, Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo.
Ultimately, Gakpo inked a deal with Liverpool and has a contract that runs through 2028 with Arne Slot’s club. However, there are some reports that Bayern Munich values Gakpo so much, they might be willing to break the bank to convince him to move to Germany this summer:
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich are looking to raid Liverpool for the services of their versatile attacker Cody Gakpo.
Bayern Munich have already started planning for the next summer transfer window. The Bundesliga giants will be looking to bolster their attack and according to a report from Fichajes, they are plotting a raid on Liverpool for Cody Gakpo.
The Dutch international made a name for himself while playing for PSV Eindhoven before securing a move to the Merseyside club at the start of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Reds.
While Cody Gakpo’s contract at Anfield runs until the summer of 2028 and they consider him a key part of their plans moving ahead, the 25-year-old could be living his final months at Liverpool amidst interest from Bayern Munich.
Cody Gakpo is considered to be an ideal fit for Bayern Munich’s system and the type of football that is played in Germany. He is a young proven star with international experience, and Die Roten are ready to bet big on him. The Dutchman’s ability to feature in multiple positions, score as well as create is what attracts their interest.
While Bayern Munich are ready to push hard for his signature, they won’t find it easy to strike a deal. They will have to fork out in excess of €80 million to sign the Dutch forward. The Reds could agree to a potential transfer as it will give them enough funds to reinvest in their squad.
It feels unlikely that Bayern Munich would spend that much on Gakpo, but his ability to play any position across the frontline is something that could be appealing to the Bavarians, especially as they look to revamp several attacking positions on the roster.
This report goes against the grain of just about every other story out there which points Athletic Club winger Nico Williams to FC Barcelona, but what would you expect given the outlet’s name:
Athletic Club winger Nico Williams has made it clear he favours a transfer to Real Madrid, despite being the subject of interest from Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern Munich is on break, but there is still a lot to chat about — particularly with some of the rumors that we have heard this week. However, there was one topic being bandied about on social media that captured our attention — the trends of behavior with Bayern Munich fans and why being a supporter is a little more complex these days. Let get into all of that. This is what we have on tap:
- Bayern Munich’s recent run of instability has caused fans to act differently, but that is natural after so much change.
- Nico Williams? Jamie Gittens? Should Bayern Munich be willing to drop a lot of money on these players?
- If Nestory Irankunda wants a loan, Bayern Munich should oblige.
- A brief Entertainment Rundown as we tackle Happy Gilmore 2’s 2025 release (we are hoping it’s good!).
Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu really did not seem to have much interest in a move to Bayern Munich despite transfer rumors last summer:
Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has revealed what he told Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga giants became interested in the Nerazzurri playmaker in the 2024 summer transfer window.
The Türkiye international has established himself as one of Inter’s key players under Simone Inzaghi over the last few years, which has led to subsequent interest from a number of Europe’s ‘top’ clubs on the transfer market.
Though Calhanoglu has a lot of respect for Bayern Munich, he told the Bavarians to ‘talk to Inter, not to me’, as he felt it best to respect the wishes of his current employers. Calhanoglu was away with his national team for EURO 2024 at the time of Bayern’s enquiry with Inter, but has since revealed that his agent did not disclose any of the potential transfer talks until the tournament was over.
“The European Championships were on, and my agent didn’t tell me anything until they were over. Then he called me and told me that there were these options. I stopped him immediately and told him ‘talk to Inter, not to me, I will only do what they want’,” Calhanoglu said in a recent interview with Il Corriere dello Sport.
Napoli could be looking at former Bayern Munich prospect and current Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee:
Napoli will compete with Juventus to sign Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, according to Calciomercato. Juventus transfer guru Cristiano Giuntoli is already working on a deal to sign the 23-year-old in the summer, with the player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, wanting to give Juve priority, although Napoli could use Man United’s interest in Victor Osimhen to gain an advantage in negotiations.

- A breakdown of each attacker, what they did well, where they are lacking, and how they rated overall.
- Is this the end for Thomas Müller — and if so, what should he do next? MLS? Stay in Germany?
- Why Jamal Musiala has been one of the great players for Bayern Munich — and in the world — this season.
- Harry Kane was really good, but what could he change to take his game to the next level.
