The name Jonas Urbig has been bandied about in rumors linking the goalkeeper to Bayern Munich off-and-on for months.
Now, though, there could be a reason why.
It looks like Manuel Neuer is going to extend his contract for one more season through 2026, which could place an official timeline on when Bayern Munich will need the team captain to pass the torch in between the sticks.
Recent reports have indicated that the club might not be fully sold on Alexander Nübel (on loan with VfB Stuttgart) or Daniel Peretz (has not exactly seized the opportunity with Neuer out of the lineup). So…enter Urbig:
The people in charge at FC Bayern like Jonas Urbig. The goalkeeper is therefore very high on the Munich team’s list. The squad planners are working intensively on him, and he could become a hot topic in the new year.
Urbig, Germany’s U-21 goalkeeper, certainly has talent, but “being the man, after the man” is a tough role for anyone to take on. At just 21-years-old, he could be a long-term solution at the position, but also would have to carry the weight of being Neuer’s successor.
Can he be the “right one”?
Could Manchester United convince Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min to change allegiances? Seems like a longshot, but here you go:
Manchester United are planning a move for Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min when he becomes a free agent in the summer.
Bayern Munich will host RB Leizpig for a Bundesliga showdown that became really important after the Bavarians were knocked off by Mainz 05 last weekend.

Bayern Munich was rumored to have interest in Paris Saint-Germain center-back Milan Škriniar at various points over the past few years (dating back to 2018 actually), but with a thin corps on the backline and a lot of mileage being racked up by Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, is it possible that Bayern Munich could be kicking the tires on Škriniar once again?
Maybe — at least per one report:
Juventus are leading the race to sign centre-back Milan Skriniar from PSG but face competition from Aston Villa, Al Hilal, Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.
Ah, the one that got away.
Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain are all keeping an eye on former Bayern Munich prospect and current Juventus attacker Kenan Yildiz:
Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain could all battle for the signature of Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz.

The rumors linking Liverpool FC and Leroy Sané are said to be “not hot”, contrary to recent reports:
Been told that rumors linking Leroy #Sané with Liverpool are not hot at this stage.
Currently, there are no internal discussions or concrete plans regarding a #LFC transfer for Sané this summer.
It remains possible that the 28y/o could leave Munich on a free transfer in the summer, as Bayern are not actively pursuing a contract extension at this stage.
Manchester City thinks that coach Pep Guardiola could be the hammer they need to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi:
Manchester City are confident that manager Pep Guardiola will be the key factor in convincing Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi to join the reigning Premier League champions in January, Football Insider reports. Liverpool failed in their bid to sign the Spain international in the summer, but City hope they can lift their stuttering title defence and sign top-class cover for the injured Rodri by recruiting Zubimendi next month.
Bayern Munich was riding high, but now might go stumbling into the break depending on how motivated RB Leipzig is to help save the job of its head coach.
Obviously, Bayern Munich would rather not be in this predicament, but there is still this final game to right the ship.
Aside of the on-field action, there appears to be some serious movement on a couple of transfer situations that could dramatically affect the future of the club. Let’s talk about all of that and more on the latest edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show. This is what we have on tap:
