Bayern Munich Joshua Kimmich added another highlight to his reel on Friday during the team’s 5-1 dismantling of RB Leipzig with a laser of a goal. That was just one minor part of the success that Kimmich has had this season and it has not gone unnoticed at Bayern Munich and elsewhere.
FC Barcelona could be seeking to get a value buy this summer when Kimmich becomes a free agent. Kimmich, of course, has a longstanding relationship with Barca coach Hansi Flick:
Joshua Kimmich is a player who has been constantly linked with a move to FC Barcelona for quite some time now.
While the German international was a priority target under former manager Xavi Hernandez, the interest in him appeared to have died down of late despite his history with current head coach Hansi Flick.
In fact, it appeared that Kimmich, whose contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, will be signing a new deal with the Bundesliga heavyweights. However, according to the latest update from journalist Christian Falk, Barcelona coach Flick remains interested in acquiring Joshua Kimmich, who is now also a target for Manchester City.
Even though there has been progress in a possible renewal with Bayern Munich, the 29-year-old remains open to listening to other offers, including that from Barça. As mentioned earlier, Kimmich and Flick share a solid relationship, with the pair having worked together at Bayern Munich and in the German national team in the past.
However, Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, are also very much interested in the versatile midfielder. It must be remembered that it was Guardiola who brought Kimmich to Bayern Munich and handed him his debut in 2015.
The Bavarian giants have hinted at a potential contract renewal but the German international remains very much open to exploring other avenues as well. Whether Barça do act on the reported interest of their manager and make a move for the midfielder remains to be seen as the Catalans have other priorities at the moment such as signing a new left-winger and a backup striker.
Bayern Munich would be well-served to get Kimmich’s name on the dotted line as soon as possible. The Germany international continues to perform and it will not just be FC Barcelona knocking on his door in a couple of weeks.
Liverpool FC is a fan of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong, but the 24-year-old is not a true right-back, which probably does not make him a fit for Arne Slot’s system:

Bayern Munich hosted RB Leipzig for a Bundesliga showdown in the final match before the Winterpause.
The Bavarians did not have one eye on vacation and were fully focused on destroying Die Roten Bullen during a 5-1 thrashing of the visitors.
Let’s talk about how it all went down and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show. This is what we have on tap:
- A look at the starting XI and what was surprising.
- A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
- Bayern Munich rose to the challenge and the moment.
- Some final thoughts and takeaways on the match including why the attacking group probably needs to stay together and why it was important for the backline to bounce back from an early mistake.
Former Manchester United center-back Jaap Stam has encouraged the club to pursue Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies:
Jaap Stam has backed Manchester United to make a transfer move for Bayern Munich speedster Alphonso Davies.
“Alphonso Davies is exactly the type of player that Manchester United should be looking at, players that would bring in a lot of quality and that should be the case in every window,” Stam told Sport Lens. “You have to ask if a player is going to make it a better team and Davies is so fast, so good on the ball and is versatile. These types of players will make a difference and he’s also got the experience of playing at the highest level.
“Without a doubt he would improve United when you assess the squad and the players that are already there. Thinking about what Sir Alex would do, he would make harsh decisions if his players weren’t up to the right standard or picked up so many injuries. Especially when you look at a position like wing-back and the role they play. You need consistent and reliable players to ensure success like Sir Alex did and that brings dominance in games and more victories.”
It looks like Randal Kolo Muani will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United could be willing to give him a new home:
France international Randal Kolo Muani is being looked at by Manchester United and RB Leipzig after being deemed surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain, L’Equipe reports. Kolo Muani was left out of the PSG squad for Sunday’s 3-1 win over Lyon, sending a clear message that the 26-year-old is not in coach Luis Enrique’s plans. An initial loan move for a player with a contract that runs until 2028 is the most likely scenario in the January transfer window.
Bayern Munich is making a lot of noise on and off the pitch these days, so let’s try and cover it all right here. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

Manchester City (what a mess these days) star Kevin De Bruyne is getting a lot of interest from MLS and Saudi Arabia:
Saudi Arabian and MLS clubs have shown an interest in Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, reports Nicolo Schira. The 33-year-old’s contract ends in the summer, and there is no agreement to extend it. The Belgium international could accept one of the big money offers if he decides to leave the Etihad.
Arsenal FC is reportedly talking to two strikers who have been linked to Bayern Munich at one point or another:
Arsenal are in negotiations to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, but RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško remains the Gunners’ priority, reports Football Transfers. Gyökeres will be available for €65 million and wants playing time assurances, while his hopes to play in the UEFA Champions League could be an obstacle to Newcastle United’s interest in the 26-year-old.
