One more coaching vacancy has been filled in the NFL as the Las Vegas Raiders made a huge splash on Friday morning by signing former Super Bowl champion head coach Pete Carroll to lead the franchise for the next three years.
Carroll’s name had been mentioned in the coaching carousel, but as Dan Patrick discussed in a recent episode of his show, having him back on an NFL sideline is surreal.
On Friday’s episode of The Dan Patrick Show, Patrick said about the Carroll move, “I think it’s a great hire…I want someone who’s a proven commodity. I don’t know if there’s a downside to this. He has the energy of a 32-year-old. His age won’t be an issue.”

Carroll will turn 74 during the 2025 season, but age has clearly just been a number to him.
He has always looked and acted much younger than he is.
We should all strive to look as good as Carroll does at 74.
After a year away from the game, the Raiders hope that a new coach and general manager can help turn this fledgling franchise around, similar to what the Washington Commanders did this season.
Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks parted ways before this season after he led the team to two Super Bowls and one victory over his 14 seasons as the franchise’s head coach.
It’s a massive hire for a team that desperately needed one, and the next course of action for Carroll and his staff will be figuring out this quarterback position.
